Whispers of Home

Some doorways hold more than they show.

A grandmother’s hand rests over a child’s. Warm afternoon light does what light does when no one is trying to make it beautiful — it just is. There is nothing being said out loud, and everything is being said anyway.

Belonging is often invisible until we lose it, and then it is suddenly the only thing we can name. The people who make us feel like ourselves rarely announce that they are doing it. They simply stay. They simply look up when we walk into the room.

This photograph isn’t asking you to admire a moment between two other people.

It’s asking you to remember whose doorway you first felt safe in.

Whose presence still means home to you — even when you don’t say it out loud?
