First Light

Hope, before we learned to be careful with it.

Small hands lift a paper lantern into the morning mist. There is nothing calculated in the gesture. No expectation. No fear of looking foolish. Only the pure, unnamed act of offering something up.

Somewhere along the way, most of us learned to hold hope more cautiously — to hedge it, to protect it, to keep it small enough that no one could take it from us. But hope was never meant to be small. It was meant to be released.

This image isn’t nostalgia for childhood.

It’s an invitation to remember what you used to believe was possible before you learned what wasn’t.

What lantern have you been quietly holding — and what would it feel like to let it rise?
