Interior Landscape

Some faces are landscapes.

Earth tones trace the contours of a face that has weathered and bloomed in equal measure. This portrait does not depict a person. It maps her interior world — the terrain of a woman who has learned, quietly, to hold complexity.

We often ask each other, when things are difficult: are you okay? It is a small, kind question. It is also the wrong question. Most adults are not “okay” in the singular. They are okay and also grieving. Steady and also uncertain. In love and also afraid. Real interior life is plural.

This portrait isn’t asking you to feel one thing.

It’s asking you to notice how many things you are quietly holding at once.

What contradictions are living inside you today — and can you let them all be true?
