The Space Between Reaction and Regulation

“A person is a collage. Everyone is.
A face emerges from layers of texture, fabric, botanicals. It looks like a portrait. It is actually a diagram. The face is being made of every material that shaped it — every letter read, every garden walked, every hand once held.
We often present ourselves as if we were original documents. But nothing in us is unlayered. The way we speak comes from someone. The way we grieve comes from someone. Even the parts of us we think we invented were quietly borrowed from a book, a song, a person we met once and never forgot.
This piece isn’t about visual art.
It’s about the composition of you.
Of all the pieces you are quietly made of — which one would surprise the people who think they know you?”
