Biography

Elena Vasquez is a painter and muralist whose work draws from Andean textile traditions and magical realism. Born in Cusco and trained at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, she paints in oil and mixed media on canvases the size of the wall her grandmother wove her first shawl on.

Her canvases have been acquired by the Museo de Arte de Lima, the Tate Modern (as part of the Latin American Acquisitions), and dozens of private collections across the Andes and Europe. Her large-scale murals have been commissioned by the cities of Cusco, Lima, and Medellín.

She teaches painting to displaced women through her non-profit ánima, and works from a studio at the edge of the Sacred Valley.
