At Altitude
“The music of a place cannot be moved without changing.
Andean pan flute musicians play at 4,000 meters. Mountains behind them. Thin air above. The sound rises into a sky their ancestors also played into. Move this exact performance to a valley and it is no longer the same performance. Altitude is part of the instrument.
We forget, in modern life, that we too are altitudes. The exact you that showed up to that room last Tuesday will never be quite the same you again. Every conversation, every hour, is being played in an altitude that will not repeat.
This photograph isn’t about mountains.
It’s about the specific weather you are currently living inside.
What is the altitude of your life this season — and how is it changing the sound of everything you do?”
