Kathak Spin

A Kathak dancer spins. Skirts blur into red and gold. Ankle bells punctuate the air. This is not choreography as decoration. This is choreography as narrative — every spin a sentence, every bell a comma, every turn of the wrist an old sentence-ending someone taught someone taught someone.

We often think of storytelling as words. But bodies have been telling stories for longer than words have existed. Our own bodies, without our permission, are still telling ours. The way we walk into a room. The way we hold a coffee cup at 8am on a Wednesday. Any dancer could read it.
