The Beauty of Imperfection

“The word for this is wabi-sabi. It has no exact translation.

Handmade pottery. Natural glazes. Imperfect forms. Each vessel wears the fingerprints of the hands that made it. Nothing here has been smoothed into anonymity. The imperfection is the point.

We live inside cultures that treat perfection as a virtue. But wabi-sabi says something older and truer — that a thing is beautiful because a human made it, and that the traces of that human are what elevate it from product to relationship.

These vessels aren’t asking to be admired.

They’re asking to be recognised.
