Could Astrocytes Influence Human Experience?
A careful reading of a tempting question.
The temptation to draw a straight line from astrocyte biology to lived human experience is strong. The evidence supports a subtler claim.
§ 1
What is established
§ 2
What is not established
That specific human experiences are directly caused by specific astrocyte events is not established.
§ 3
The responsible framing
Astrocytes are part of the integrated biology that produces experience. Understanding that biology may, over time, expand our clinical and educational vocabulary. Overclaiming, in the meantime, risks the credibility of the science.
