Fasting, Feasting, and Nervous‑System Rhythm

The nervous system was designed for rhythms of eating and not-eating. Modern grazing is a comparatively recent experiment, and the system is still noting the difference.

What Rhythmic Eating Actually Does

Meal timing acts as a strong circadian cue. Regular meal windows anchor the peripheral clocks that regulate digestion, hormone release, and metabolic flexibility. Chronic grazing, especially late into the evening, softens those signals and leaves the nervous system slightly disoriented about what time it is at the cellular level.

Where Fasting Is Useful

Modest overnight fasts — twelve to fourteen hours between the last bite of dinner and the first bite of breakfast — support metabolic flexibility, glucose regulation, and sleep quality for most adults. Longer or more aggressive fasting is a separate topic with different risks and should not be treated as a Navigation Capacity default.

The Nervous System’s Preference

Regularity outperforms extremity. Two or three intentional meals per day, at roughly similar times, with a real gap between the last one and sleep, is what the system was expecting. It does not need a protocol. It needs a rhythm it can trust.
