Breath & Autonomic RegulationNo. 15 of 15

A Six-Minute Daily Practice

If Navigation Capacity through breath fits into your life at all, it fits into six minutes a day. That is enough. The nervous system does not need more than that most days.

The Practice

Six minutes. Once a day. Sitting or lying down. Six breaths per minute — five seconds in, five seconds out, through the nose. That is the whole practice.

Why This Works

Six minutes at coherent breathing is enough to shift resting autonomic tone for the next few hours. Repeated daily for four to six weeks, it moves resting HRV in a measurable direction. That is not spectacular. It is exactly the return the nervous system was built to yield to consistent input.

How To Make It Actually Happen

Anchor it to something already daily — the first six minutes after coffee, the first six minutes after brushing teeth, the last six minutes before sleep. Do not add it to a list of intentions. Attach it to a habit already running. That is the difference between the people for whom this works and the people for whom it does not.

Six minutes a day is enough. The nervous system does not reward heroics. It rewards return.
