Curiosity Is Not Cool Detachment
Engaged inquiry vs. dissociative distance.
One of the most common misuses of curiosity in modern self-work is confusing it with detachment. They can look similar from the outside. Physiologically, they are opposite states.

A useful diagnostic: after the practice, is there more contact with the body, or less? Curiosity brings a person closer to their own experience. Detachment moves them further away.

When detachment is appropriate
There are moments in which some degree of protective distance is exactly what a nervous system needs — an acute crisis, an overwhelming situation. The point is not to eliminate detachment but to know which state one is actually in.
