Definition
The physical and relational setting of MDMA-assisted therapy is not decorative. Medical supervision, trained therapists, emergency planning, controlled dosing, and defined roles all shape both safety and outcomes.
Why it matters
Set and setting are not marketing terms. They influence what happens neurologically, emotionally, and interpersonally during and after a session.
The Science
Trial protocols specify physical environment, staff-to-patient ratios, medical monitoring, and emergency procedures. Removing these elements changes what the treatment is.
The NSI Perspective
NSI takes context seriously. The same medication in different settings is not the same treatment.
Clinical Implications
Any clinic offering this care should be able to describe its setting in detail. Anything less is not the treatment as studied.
Practical Application
Visit or ask for photos of the clinical space. Ask about staffing during sessions. Details matter.
