Definition
MDMA-assisted therapy is not appropriate for every patient. Cardiovascular disease, uncontrolled hypertension, certain psychiatric conditions, active substance use disorders, and specific medication regimens can all be contraindications.
Why it matters
Careful screening protects patients. Broad enthusiasm can obscure real medical risk if screening is skipped.
The Science
Clinical trials use extensive exclusion criteria. Real-world availability may lack the same rigor. Patients should know what disqualifies them and why.

Clinical Implications
Any clinic that does not screen thoroughly is not practicing this treatment safely.
Practical Application
Expect to be asked many questions. Answer them honestly. The screening is protection, not gatekeeping.
