Definition

Trauma-related forecasting is the tendency of the trauma-shaped brain to over-predict danger, based on high-precision priors laid down under overwhelming conditions. It is intelligence, not defect.

Why it matters

Framing trauma responses as over-precise forecasting removes shame and clarifies the therapeutic task.

The Science

Trauma alters precision weighting in favor of threat-relevant priors. This produces hypervigilance, reactivity, and difficulty updating on safety information — exactly the clinical picture of PTSD.
