Definition

Strength is the ability of muscles to produce force. It is fundamental to independence, injury prevention, metabolic health, and mood — and it is preservable and buildable into late life.

Why it matters

Age-related strength loss (sarcopenia) is a major public-health issue. Strength training remains one of the most effective interventions across the lifespan.

The Science

Progressive resistance training produces neurological and structural adaptations, improving strength, function, bone density, and metabolic markers in nearly all populations.

The NSI Perspective

NSI treats strength as neurological and structural — both. It is not vanity work; it is fundamental function.

Clinical Implications

Strength training should be prescribed across ages, not reserved for athletes.

Practical Application

You are never too old to get stronger. This is one of the more consistently established facts in exercise science.
