MDMA administration is associated with elevated oxytocin levels and reports of increased trust, warmth, and social openness. In therapeutic contexts this may support the working alliance between patient and clinician.
Why it matters
These effects also create genuine vulnerability. Increased openness must be met by clinicians who protect boundaries, not exploit them.
The Science
Oxytocin elevation during MDMA has been documented in multiple studies. Its direct causal role in therapeutic outcomes is not yet fully established.
The NSI Perspective
Feeling connected is not the same as being safe. NSI insists on both.
Clinical Implications
Ethical protocols require explicit boundaries around touch, disclosure, and follow-up. Vulnerability is not consent.
Practical Application
If considering treatment, ask how the clinic handles the openness the medication may produce. The answer should be specific.
