Definition
Neuroplasticity is the nervous system’s capacity to reorganize in response to experience. It is greatest in early life but persists in meaningful forms throughout adulthood and into aging.
Why it matters
The narrative that adult brains are fixed is inaccurate. So is the narrative that any input rewires everything. The truth in between is where the useful science lives.
The Science
Adult neuroplasticity is documented in structural, functional, and connective changes following learning, therapy, exercise, and rehabilitation. Effects are real, dose-dependent, and specific — not miraculous.
