Medical mistrust in Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other communities is associated with worse outcomes and reduced engagement with care. The mistrust is rooted in verifiable histories (Tuskegee, sterilization abuses, contemporary disparities).

Clinical Implications
Trust rebuilding is slow relational work, not a communication trick.
Practical Application
If your community has reasons to distrust medicine, those reasons are real. Care that acknowledges them, over time, can earn something back.
