Definition

Endocrine illnesses include the many conditions in which hormone-producing glands under- or over-function — thyroid disorders, adrenal insufficiency, PCOS, diabetes, pituitary tumors, and more. Their symptoms frequently overlap with psychiatric conditions.

Why it matters

A significant fraction of “psychiatric” symptoms are actually endocrine. Missing this produces years of misdirected care.

The Science

Screening panels, imaging, and specialist evaluation identify endocrine contributions to fatigue, mood, sleep, weight, and cognition. Correct diagnosis often transforms outcomes.

The NSI Perspective

NSI holds endocrine evaluation as basic thorough care for many complaints — not a fringe interest.

Clinical Implications

Rule out endocrine contributors before locking in a psychiatric label.

Practical Application

If your symptoms have not fully made sense to your care team, an endocrine second look is often worthwhile.

Before you go

Two quiet questions.

How much of what you just read named something you already know inside your own body?

How much did this open a new question you didn’t have before?
