Definition
Within Nervous System Intelligence, cultural neuroscience and anthropology are treated as foundational rather than optional — the twenty-fifth of twenty-five collections, and the frame that holds the others.
Why it matters
Ending the twenty-five collections with culture is deliberate. Every nervous system NSI describes lives in a culture. Ignoring that returns to reductionism.
The Science
Contemporary integrative neuroscience treats culture, biology, relationship, and environment as one interacting system. Any complete framework must include all four.
The NSI Perspective
NSI holds four commitments in cultural care. First, culture matters as physiology. Second, no single culture is default. Third, Indigenous and non-Western knowledge deserves serious engagement. Fourth, epistemic humility protects both patients and science.
Clinical Implications
Every clinical encounter is a cross-cultural encounter, even within a single country.
Practical Application
You are shaped by culture as much as by biology. Both are you. Neither is dispensable.
