Definition

Community resilience is the collective capacity of groups to absorb, recover from, and grow through adversity. It is distinct from individual resilience.

Why it matters

Framing resilience only individually produces incomplete understanding. Groups have resilience characteristics of their own.

The Science

Community resilience research identifies social capital, collective efficacy, and cultural continuity as protective. Interventions at community scale often outperform individual-only approaches.

The NSI Perspective

NSI treats resilience as a property of nested systems — person, family, community.

Clinical Implications

Support community-scale interventions where possible.

Practical Application

You are not resilient in isolation. Communities carry you.
