Coregulation
The physiological process by which nervous systems regulate one another.

A definition anyone can hold.
Coregulation is what happens when one nervous system helps another find its footing — through voice, presence, touch, rhythm, or attention. It is the biological reason a scared child settles in a calm adult’s arms, and the reason adults still need each other, too.

The definition used in the research literature.
Coregulation refers to the biobehavioural synchrony through which one person’s physiological state affects another’s. It has been documented across heart-rate coupling, respiratory coordination, cortisol synchrony, and neural coupling in caregiver–infant dyads (Feldman, 2007) and adult relationships.

Nirva Life insists that coregulation is not emotional dependence. It is the design of the human nervous system. A well-regulated adult still uses coregulation — with partners, friends, colleagues, and their own children. The pathology, when it exists, is not the coregulation. It is the absence of choice or the presence of extraction.
